As public interest grows in per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), so has the attention paid to the role of air emissions in the migration and deposition of these chemicals of concern. Senior air quality consultant Adam Driscoll and senior chemical engineer Tim Russell recently authored an article about air emissions and the PFAS cycle (illustrated at right below) in the May 2020 issue of EM Magazine, a copyrighted publication of the Air & Waste Management Association.
The article covers a number of topics around PFAS and air emissions, including the status of federal and state regulatory development as well as current sampling and analytical methodologies. It also discusses how Barr’s multimedia fate-and-transport modeling has been used to the predict source contributions to surface water and groundwater and the potential effects of PFAS-reduction efforts.
