Barr staff to present at 2021 NGWA Groundwater Summit

John GreerJeff Davis, Denise Levitan, and Adam Janzen will present at the National Groundwater Association (NGWA) Groundwater Summit, which will take place virtually December 7 – 8, 2021.  

On Tuesday, December 7 at 1:40 p.m. EST, John Greer will present “Water Supply Sustainability—Rochester, MN and Provo, UT.” This presentation highlights future water demands of Rochester, MN and Provo, UT, two cities that project rapid growth over the next 20 to 40 years. John shares water constraints for each city and identifies potential alternative water sources. 

At 2:00 p.m. EST, Jeff Davis will present “Provo, Utah, from Planning to Pilot to a Final Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) Program.” Jeff recaps the development of a successful MAR program in Provo, UT. The goal of this MAR program is to replenish groundwater storage and secure a long-term sustainable water supply for a city that is expected to double in population by 2060. 

At 2:20 p.m. EST, Denise Levitan will present “Monitoring and Sampling Groundwater Quality during Managed Aquifer Recharge Pilot Testing.” This presentation highlights pilot testing for MAR in Provo, UT.  

Then, on December 8 at 3:00 p.m. EST, Adam Janzen will present “Coupled Groundwater-Surface Water Modeling to Evaluate Flooding Remedies.” Adam’s presentation gives an overview of the three issues identified by Logan County Water Resources Board for McKenna Lake and Barr’s role in assessing options for alleviating the issues.
