The second and third phases of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Plan received a 2020 Crown Community Award from American City & Country, a magazine about state and local government. These awards recognize innovative and impactful projects implemented by municipal and county governments.
Developed in response to the 2011 historic flooding of the Mouse River in North Dakota, the plan resulted in a $40 million multi-phase project that involved many federal, state, and local entities. The project was completed in 2020 and included more than 8,900 feet of earthen levee, interior drainage pump stations, river crossings of municipal utilities, and 1,600 feet of bioengineered streambank restoration.
For nearly a decade, Barr and local partner Ackerman-Estvold have worked with the City of Minot, Souris River Joint Board, and North Dakota Water State Water Commission on the planning, design, permitting, and construction of the plan.
