Dennis Oakley

Dennis Oakley

Dennis’s background in the mining industry spans more than 35 years. Coming from the ranks of the underground labor force, Dennis acquired an environmental engineering degree. Adding education to his industry experience, he has built a well-rounded mining career focused on environmental regulation and mine permitting; environmental and civil engineering; and communication and information-sharing.

He has a particular passion for transforming inactive minelands into new mining operations, renewable energy sites, and public recreation areas—not only because it’s the responsible thing to do, but because it helps the industry reclaim the good reputation it needs and deserves.

Dennis spent 24 years with PacifiCorp, where he was responsible for environmental permitting, including managing permitting to expand the Deer Creek mine into the Mill Fork reserve, which extended the mine’s life by a decade. In the years leading up to his departure from PacifiCorp, he specialized in mine closure and reclamation.

At Barr, Dennis provides environmental and regulatory expertise to clients engaged in developing, operating, and closing mines. He helps them succeed at what they do best: mine!
