When Nevada achieved statehood in 1864, every square inch of it was public land. That land, 80 percent of which is still administered by the federal government, holds more mountain ranges than any other state. It’s no surprise that the sweeping, rugged vistas and infinite opportunities for outdoor adventure draw people to work and play. At the same time, Nevada ranks as one of the world’s most attractive jurisdictions for mineral investment, and numerous other industries thrive there: manufacturing, agriculture, renewable energy, information technology, and, of course, tourism and gaming.

Together, the state’s untamed spaces, abundant natural resources, and thriving business climate give Nevada one of the strongest economies in the U.S. Reno is all that in a microcosm. The city hugs the foothills of the High Eastern Sierras, fanning out from the Truckee River, less than an hour’s drive from both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Residents enjoy year-round recreation, from climbing, hiking, and biking to kayaking and skiing. The city cultivates a dynamic arts community, while the University of Nevada offers highly ranked educational and research opportunities, along with Wolf Pack sports.

From our Reno office, Barr provides environmental and engineering expertise to the mining industry and fuels, power, manufacturing, and public clients. We offer permitting, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and mechanical engineering services. We also provide geotechnical engineering to support the sustainable extraction of critical minerals and base and precious metals. Barr is also engaged in regional professional societies, including the Geological Society of Nevada, the Nevada Mining Association, the Nevada Water Resources Association, and the northern Nevada chapter of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME).
